Even though I don’t identify with a millennial all the time, there is one thing that I am proud to admit for my generation — we experienced the fast growth of social media from the start. One day we didn’t have social media, the next it was quite literally taking over the world.

Remember when Facebook was just if you were an active or alumni of a college? I couldn’t wait to get my official college email and ‘register’ with my school.

I have always been one to start all the new things right away. So it was no surprise to my friends and family that when Instagram first opened it’s doors I was one of the first to sign up. I immediately started researching the potential of everything Instagram had to offer (especially hashtags which you can read more about here.) With over a decade of experience on the ever-changing Instagram app, I have been able to narrow down top 5 strategies for growth.

In order to have a successful brand and sell your product or service, you have do more than just post a photo here and there. Long gone are the days of the ‘gram where all we did was post pictures of our food and smoothies using (god-awful) Nashville filters.

Your potential client needs to know who you truly are — so they can trust you and your service or product.

+Get personal

Social media is all about connections. Now more than ever (thank you global pandemic) people are craving friendships and community. We as humans need other human connections. Let your potential clients get to know the real you.

+Share educational info

Just as we crave human connections, we also crave knowledge. When you finally narrow down your niche (need help with that?) you will be able to target specific educational needs of your audience. Thus, you are now serving your audience and building that connection and trust.

+Stay true to your passion

I truly believe that our success is rooted in our God-given talents. We all have purpose and a story to share with others. If you haven’t found your true passion yet, not to worry but don’t make it up either. Dig deep into your story and find what you love to speak on. Our passions are not random. Sharing our passions and talent are the most beautiful thing we can do on social media. Again, connections. ;)

+Promotions are necessary

I fully support making an income online — if you aren’t getting paid for what you are sharing you are absolutely doing it wrong. You can read more about that here — but you first must find that passion as mentioned above. Once you do, your educational info can become your promotions and then… your income. Whether it is a service or a product, you deserve to be compensated for sharing with your network. This is how you scale your business.

+Engagement is key

You’ll hear me say this a time… or ten, haha. It’s easy to get on social media and scroll endlessly but we also have to remember if we plan on sharing our content and expect engagement, then we have to engage with others too. This goes more than one way — you engaging with others and you posting engaging content so your followers engage with you. Don’t post and ghost either. ;)
